About the lab
The main research focus of the lab is to characterize how different insults (diseases, drugs) affect the penetration of therapeutic drugs across the blood brain barrier into the brain. The lab currently has two main therapeutic focuses. The first is to better understand the effects of HIV and drug abuse on antiretroviral drug penetration into the brain. The second is in the area of Alzheimer's disease. We are trying to better understand how long-term sedative/hypnotic use may affect the blood brain barrier and predispose individuals to the development of Alzheimer's disease.
